Why do so many Companies give away freebies?

Companies give away free products / samples and trials as part of their marketing strategy.

FREE is the most powerful word in advertising. Not many can resist a freebie, and why would you? After all there is nothing to lose for us. It’s free, we try it and we either like it or we don’t.

From the Brands point of view, giving out freebies means:

• You’re lured in to trying out their product, when you probably wouldn’t spend your money on something which you may not like.
• Once you have tried their product, you will like it enough to actually spend your own money on it in the future.
• You’ll be a Customer for life.
• It’s great publicity, we love to share with others how we’ve managed to get a freebie.
• More freebies – more free advertising for the Company.

You have probably heard the phrase ‘If the product is free then YOU are the product.’ This may be true of Facebook and the like.

We prefer – ‘If the product is free and you fancy it then take it – Happy days’

Aaah free coffee. It honestly pains me to pay over £3 for a coffee when I’m out and about, so me and Mr D make sure we are armed with the knowledge of where to get free coffee.

We love this one, you invest £1 (you can cash it out so it’s just a deposit not a cost) and using a referral link, you get a free share. This can be worth anything between £3 and £100. Best part is that you then share your own referral link with your friends, family and colleagues and you both get a free share. Then you cash out – simple.

3 Claim your free trials today

Free trials are ace. Get to try out something new and if you enjoy it, great, you can choose to continue the subscription if you think it’s worth the monthly amount. If not then, well you tried something new.

Do cancel (or diarise to cancel) as soon as the free trial is coming to an end. That way it is a conscious choice to continue, rather than forgetting to cancel.

4 Claim your free Cashback today

Claiming cashback is one of the easiest ways to get the most out of your money, but it’s not limited to just getting cashback on purchases that we enjoy. New members get signing up bonuses for cashback websites. Plus when you are a member you can send your link to friends and you both get bonuses too.

A cashback credit card is also a win – especially for the sign up bonus. The Amex Platinum cashback card always has a great sign up offer, and like the cashback websites, fab referral bonuses for you and your friends. The normal cashback card does too, just a little less but no annual fee.

The quick referral links (and their current offers) are:

Quidco – At the moment the free sign up offer is only £1 – this changes often. The best bit is you then share your links with your friends and though they get £1, you get £10 once they have used their account and earned £5 cashback.

Topcashback – You get free £10 when you sign up and make your first purchase. Then you can refer your friends and you receive £30 free once your friend has earned £10 cashback.

American Express Platinum cashback card – You get £35 cashback when you sign up using my link. Then your friends get £35 when they sign up using your link, and you get £50 when they spend £1. (This card has a £25 annual fee, I’ve included it as it is more than covered by your £35 cashback)

Or choose the Platinum everyday card – You get £25 cashback when you sign up with this link. Then when you refer your friends, they get £25 when they sign up using your link, and you get £30 when they spend £1 .

5 Claim your free Avios today

Avios is my favourite currency. We use our Avios for flights. They are the way we book Summer Hols British Airways Club Europe return to Cyprus for £50 and How to get return flights to Europe for £1

You can also exchange Avios for Nectar points (and vice versa), giving them a cash value.

250 Avios = 400 Nectar points.

500 Nectar points = £2.50 at Sainsburys.

There are plenty of ways to boost the value of your nectar points but let’s use this as a lowest possible valuation of Avios.

The easiest way to get free Avios is by getting sign up bonuses with American Express cards. There is a minimum spend on the cards to get the bonus so if you can hit those spends by shifting your normal payment method to Amex then this is perfect. If you haven’t held a points earning card in the last 24 months then take a look.

Sign up bonuses vary over the course of the year, these are the current bonuses and referral links. Remember you will get your own referral links to share with your friends, giving you the opportunity to earn more.

British Airways Amex – This free card awards you with 12,000 Avios FREE if you spend £1,000 in the first 3 months of membership. (There is a Platinum card which earns more but has a hefty annual fee)

12,000 Avios is worth £60.

American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Card – This card is free for a year (diarise to cancel before the annual fee kicks in). You get 32,000 Membership rewards (MR) points if you spend £3,000 in the first 3 months of membership. These can be converted to 32,000 Avios.

32,000 Avios is worth £160.
